In 2004, Grove Street won an APA gold Award for community programming.
For the past 10 years, Pat has developed and facilitated Parents and Family Member DBT Skills Training Groups in Massachusetts and in Maryland. These groups have taught Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills to parents, siblings and family members searching for help in how to respond effectively to family members who have emotional dysregulation or mental illness. Since moving to Maryland, Pat has specialized in coaching and supporting parents, siblings and family members, consulting and training in the use of DBT Skills. Pat is passionate in her desire to support family members and to validate their feelings and anxieties about the difficulties they face in living with someone whose emotions often lead to an increase in everyone's emotions. She is especially interested in training other mental health professionals to use DBT skills, philosophy and concepts to accept, understand and help to change the behaviors of individuals with mental illness and their families. Pat has given seminars and workshops locally and nationally through several non-profit organizations to clinicians, rehab counselors and family members. She has presented at a number of state and national conferences as well (see "Trainings" section in this website). Pat has also given seminars nationally through PESI.
Pat was the DBT Consultant to Adventist Behavioral Health where she is helped the adolescent residential treatment centers and the school to implement DBT skills groups and DBT philosophy in their treatment. Pat was the clinical consultant at St. Luke's Home Inc. for 3 years. Pat is an active member of NAMI (The National Alliance on Mental Illness) advocating for the rights and needs of individuals with mental illness and their families and educating others about individuals with mental illness and their parents and family members. Pat served as the Public Policy consultant to NAMI MD from 2007-2009. In that role, she wrote and delivered oral testimony to the Maryland General Assembly on a number of bills related to the needs of individuals with mental illness and their families.
Pat’s hope is that her work will enable more acceptance of individuals with emotion dysregulation and more understanding of the lives of their family members. It is her goal to continue to translate DBT philosophy and skills into practical strategies for living, and helping others to live, lives of fulfillment and appreciation for every moment.
